Join us for the inaugural running of Mile at the Pines on Sunday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. in Urbana, Illinois, adjacent to The Pines shopping center at the corner of Windsor and Philo Rd. Nine different MILE waves—a race for every class of runners (or walkers). We are also honoring Veterans Day with special awards to the top three military male and female finishers.

Race proceeds donated to CU Schools Foundation.

Registration for Mile at the Pines on Sunday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. is OPEN.

$20.00 (plus a small service fee charged by online registration partner imATHLETE)

Online registration will close on Sunday, November 5 at midnight. There is NO race day registration, but additional registrations (for $25) will be available during packet pick-up at Body n’ Sole (1317 N Dunlap Ave, Savoy, IL 61874) on November 9 and 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on November 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Logistics

Course Info

The start line is on Philo Road in Urbana, a bit south of the intersection of Philo and Curtis. Each wave of entrants runs one mile straight north on Philo Rd, finishing on Philo Rd, south of the intersection of Philo Road and Windsor Road, adjacent to The Pines shopping center. The waves start roughly every 10 minutes (see Wave Schedule). Each wave will be scored on chip time (we will be using B-tag race numbers) except the elite male and female waves, which will be scored on gun time.

There is NO race day registration, but additional registrations (for $25) will be available during packet pick-up at Body n’ Sole (1317 N Dunlap Ave, Savoy, IL) on November 9 and 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on November 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Parking

There is ample parking for the race. Park at The Pines shopping center (corner of Philo Rd and Windsor Rd on the southeast corner), Meijer (corner of Philo Rd and Windsor Rd on the northeast corner), Christie Clinic (on Windsor Rd, just east of The Pines shopping center), and Carle (on Windsor Rd, just east of The Pines shopping center).

Registration and Packet Pick-Up

  • Packet pick-up is available on Thursday and Friday, November 9 & 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 11 from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Body n’ Sole Sports, 1317 N Dunlap Ave, Savoy, IL. You may also pick up your packet on race day, November 12, at The Pines staging area (Windsor and Philo) from noon to 2:00 p.m.
  • Online registration closes on Sunday, November 5 at midnight. Additional registrations will be available during packet pick-up on Thursday and Friday, November 9 & 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Body n’ Sole Sports, 1317 N Dunlap Ave, Savoy, IL.
  • There is NO race day registration.
  • Strollers are not allowed in Mile at the Pines.

Race Day Logistics

  • The race staging area is at The Pines shopping center on the southeast corner of Philo and Windsor roads. Look for the tents in the parking lot along the southwest corner.
  • The start line is on Philo Road, just south of the intersection of Philo Road and Curtis Road. Download Map

  • There is NO parking at the start line.
  • Entrants will walk or jog down to the start line, using the sidewalk along the east side of Philo Road. When the sidewalk ends, continue south in the lane we create on the eastern edge of Philo Road to get the rest of the way to the start area.
  • There are nine separate mile races or waves. Select the wave that matches your age and gender. The community mile wave is for any age runner or walker.
    • Youth male wave (17 & under)
    • Youth female wave (17 & under)
    • Community mile wave (non-competitive; age 5 & up)
    • Male open wave (age 18 to 39)
    • Female open wave (age 18 to 39)
    • Male masters wave (age 40 & over)
    • Female masters wave (age 40 & over)
    • Elite male wave (any age but must be able to run a sub 4:45 mile)
    • Elite female wave (any age but must be able to run a sub 5:45 mile)
  • Technically, yes. You would need to register twice. Since the elite male and female waves are run last, you could conceivably run one of the earlier waves (one that matches your age and gender) and then run the elite male or female wave, assuming you meet the time requirements. You could also enter the non-competitive community mile wave as well as the wave that matches your age and gender. If you register twice, you would receive two logoed race hats.
  • All the proceeds from Mile at the Pines will be donated to CU Schools Foundation.
  • Yes, there will be plenty of food and drink after the race, in the staging area on the southeast side of The Pines shopping center. Look for the tents.
  • Yes, awards will be presented at two awards ceremonies on November 12—the first one at 2:00 p.m. and the second one at 3:00 p.m.
  • Milo’s Restaurant, Subway, and Red Bicycle Ice Cream—all located at The Pines—have donated gift certificates for the age group awards. Attie’s Bar & Grill has donated gift certificates for the special awards given to the top three male and female military and U of I alumni winners. Body n’ Sole is donating gift certificates to the winner of each mile wave.

Awards

Awards will be presented on race day at two ceremonies at The Pines—first ceremony at 2:00 p.m. and second ceremony at 3:00 p.m.

Each overall wave winner will receive a plaque and a gift certificate from Body n’ Sole.

We will award 3-deep age-group awards for the open male & female waves, the masters male & female waves, and the youth 17 & under waves.

  • Open male & female mile wave age groups: 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39
  • Masters male & female mile wave age groups: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-55, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79
  • Youth 17 & under male and female age groups: 5 to 9, 10-14, 15-17

We will award first-, second-, and third-place plaques and gift certificates in the elite male wave and the elite female wave.

There is also a non-competitive community mile: Any age can run (or walk) in this wave. Plaque to first-place winner only and a Body n’ Sole gift certificate.

Bonus award category for military

We will present awards to the first-, second-, and third-place male and female military runners (active or retired). All entrants are eligible, no matter which wave you ran, or whether you won another award.

Bonus award category U of I alumni

We will award to the first-, second-, and third-place male and female University of Illinois alumni runners. All entrants are eligible, no matter which wave you ran, or whether you won another award.

  • Noon to 2:00: Late packet pick-up at Mile at the Pines shopping center, corner of Windsor/Philo Rd, Urbana.
  • 12:30 p.m.: Presentation of the flag/National Anthem, staging area, Mile at the Pines shopping center
  • 1:00 p.m.: Start of first mile wave. Refreshments available at the finish.
  • 2:00 p.m.: First Awards Ceremony
  • 3:00 p.m.: Second Awards Ceremony
